Websites to watch Free Movies

In the age of on-demand television and movies, getting your fix of entertainment has never been easier. By scrolling through your directory, you can usually find something good to watch to pass the time. However, what do you do when you want to watch a specific movie right away? There are numerous services that allow you to purchase movies to watch (such as pay-per-view TV and YouTube), but there are also a host of sites that allow you to watch movies for free, and their libraries are as expansive as Blockbuster used to be.

Now the first question that may come to mind is if such a thing is entirely legal. After all, pirates and internet hackers download and stream movies and shows off the internet all the time. The answer is yes, all of the sites listed in this article allow you to watch any number of movies legally for free, as the websites are usually partnered with a studio to host their movies online. This opens up a number of options for you, and you don’t have to pay a dime.

Free Movies

YouTube
www.youtube.com

Popular viral video powerhouse YouTube is probably not the first place you’d go to watch a free movie, but alongside the numerous pay-per-view movies, you can find a large collection of free movies as well. Unlike some streaming sites, you don’t need to have an account to enjoy the wide selection of movies available for viewing, but there is some work that needs to be done on the user-end.

YouTube, for as big as it is, doesn’t advertise their free movie selection in the “Movies” section of their site. There are cheap movies, for sure, but nothing in this section is actually free. Instead, you’ll have to do a search for full length feature films in the search bar, and try and find it in your results. The best channels to get those full-length movies are usually owned by a larger studio. FUNimation and PopcornFlix are a couple of great channels to start looking.

So, while not totally convenient, YouTube offers a familiar layout and an easy way to stream your favorite movies without paying a dime. Just make sure that your chosen movie finishes buffering first.

Crackle
www.crackle.com

By far the most popular place to watch free movies, there isn’t a soul alive who wouldn’t recommend Crackle to get your cinema fix. Featuring hundreds, if not thousands, of free movies right at your fingertips. All you need to do is sign up with an account to get a personalized list of movies and shows that you can browse. What’s great about Crackle is that it features a familiar layout with a great user interface.

However, Crackle does have its downsides; you won’t find new releases on this site, so if you’re looking for the new Avengers movie, you’re out of luck. It does have select, big-name feature films that you can watch, but nothing that has come out in the current year. Crackle features every genre under the sun, so whether you’re looking for action, comedy, suspense, or a thriller, you’re guaranteed to find something to scratch that particular itch. There are also a host of foreign films as well, so there’s no shortage of movies to watch.

Crackle is owned by Sony Pictures, which guarantees a wide and varied selection of movies and films at your fingertips. While this doesn’t necessarily get you the latest and greatest, there’s still a good selection of films featuring your favorite actors. Plus, it’s free, so there’s really no reason not to try Crackle at least once.

PopcornFlix

Like Crackle, PopcornFlix is a library of free to watch movies that come in a wide selection of genres. You don’t need a subscription, and you don’t need to sign up for anything. It’s as simple as browsing their movies and picking one. The layout of the site is incredibly easy to navigate, and is reminiscent of services like Netflix, where every movie is laid out in categories from action to comedy.

Unlike Crackle, PopcornFlix has a smaller selection to choose from (being owned by a smaller company), and while they have popular titles like Terminator and Total Recall, there are also a host of movies that either aren’t popular or flew under the radar on release. While you can probably find an old favorite on this site, you’re not going to find many A-list titles, and you’re definitely not going to see any new releases until after they’ve been out for a few years.

TubiTV

TubiTV has what is probably the most diverse selection of movies and TV to watch, featuring not only your standard action flicks and suspenseful thrillers, but also a good selection of anime and foreign film as well. There are literally hundreds of videos by big name producers to choose from, and lots of movies feature your favorite actors and actresses as well. The layout is easy to navigate, giving you lots of options right on the home page. There are no subscription fees, but you may need to create an account to get the best experience from this site.

This website is a great recommendation for people who want to watch old favorites and also newer flicks as well. There’s such a diversity in the selection on TubiTV that it will be a long time until you run out of things to watch.

Movies Found Online
www.moviesfoundonline.com

YouTube is well known for leading users on a weird and wild goose chase through their “recommended videos” section, but when all you want to do is look for a movie or show to watch without the distraction, then MoviesFoundOnline.com has you covered. It has shows, movies, documentaries, and even the latest and greatest in viral videos. Everything from animated favorites to the dark and gritty documentaries can be found here, and it is constantly updating with newer films and videos. In fact, while many sites on this list seldomly feature anything newer than 2015, Movies Found Online has all sorts of selections from 2015 and 2016 as well.

This website also hosts several old classics that are sure to be a joy to watch, and to see exactly how far we’ve come in the film industry. The only issue with this site is that when you list all of the free movies, they aren’t necessarily sorted by genre. Horror, westerns, romance, and more are all lumped together under the banner of “free” so care should be taken when picking out your next family-night movie.

Movie Zoot
www.moviezoot.com

This free movie website features more of the classics from the 50’s through to the 70’s in every major genre. Sci-fi, mystery, and westerns are all here for your free viewing pleasure. While you won’t find any new or even recent releases, the classics still hold a place in many people’s hearts. This website is great for putting on a movie during a party or as background noise while you relax, and every film available is absolutely free to watch forever.

There’s also a subscription service (also free) that gives you recommendations based on your watching history and new additions. Movie Zoot will send you these recommendations through to your e-mail, though not everyone is necessarily excited about getting more clutter in their inbox.

Overall, it’s a great site, though it’s not as diverse as other websites like YouTube or Tubi. Nonetheless, there’s still a treasure trove of free movies and films to watch and enjoy.

Top Documentary Films

This site is aimed at those who enjoy a good documentary. There is a large selection of videos available to watch and unwind to, and is completely free to anyone with an interest in learning more about anything. There are nature and biology centered documentaries, as well as mystery and religious films as well. Because this website caters to such a specific audience, there isn’t a lot of love for these kinds of sites, but Top Documentary Films is fantastic to watch while you’re doing something else for a while.

Public Domain Torrents

A lot of people see the word “torrent” and immediately think that it’s a site to be avoided, but this website is just the opposite. Everything hosted on this website falls under the public domain, and is free to watch, download, and share as you please. There are no recent movies, and there are definitely no hot releases, but movies from the early 50’s and 40’s are sure to be in here. Again, this is another website that targets a niche audience, but is still a great choice if you have nothing else to watch.

Other Websites To Download Free Movies

There are lots of other websites online that offer free movies to watch, but care should be taken when looking. Not every website is legal, and it can be hard to tell if a website is following the rules. Google has done a good job scrubbing their top results of illicit sites, but it’s definitely not perfect. When looking for free movies, protect yourself and your information; don’t put your credit card information anywhere, and don’t click download links unless you’re absolutely sure you know what you’re downloading.
